"The Amgen program convinced me that I wanted to embark on a career in scientific research. This gave me ample time before I had to make my PhD applications to apply for further summer studentships, to think about the research topics I wanted to pursue and to identify suitable places where I could carry out my research at the highest level.  For this I will always be very grateful - I am sure it made me a much stronger candidate. I must also say that the friends I made in Munich are some of the best I have."
